Semillas is nonsectarian in its programs and admission policies and does not charge tuition. Semillas admits all pupils who wish to attend a Semillas Community School but is subject to capacity, the admissions procedures and preferences stated herein.

Semillas Selection Process

Semillas Community Schools endeavor to accommodate all students who apply for admission, however, when applications for admission exceed the number of spaces available, Semillas employs a lottery to determine admission. Spaces are allocated to form a student body that reflects the demographics of the region in which the school is located.
Semillas Community Schools does not discriminate on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, age, race, color, national or ethnic origin, or disability in administration of its admissions or educational policies, other School-administered programs, or in employment. The School complies with the amended Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Interested parents who want to enroll their children will use this form to submit their contact information. The school will use this information to let them know about upcoming enrollment dates, school information, etc.
We are currently recruiting new students for all grades for the 2013 – 2014 school year. Parents who are interested in enrolling their child can fill out an "Interested Parent List" online, parents can come into our main office located at 4736 Huntington Dr. South, Los Angeles, CA 90032 to fill out the form or parents can call (323) 217-2775.
Parents who fill out an "Interest to Enroll Form" will be informed via phone and email regarding upcoming orientations where students will be selected to attend. If there are more students who want to enroll than there are spaces available, we will conduct a lottery.
Priority will be given in the following order:
  • Children of founding members will be given priority in admission although these will constitute a small percentage of total student enrollment.
  • Children of employees of Semillas and siblings of enrolled students.
  • Children considered educationally disadvantaged by the State of California because of their home public school.
  • Children considered educationally disadvantaged by the State of California because of their home public school.
Once students are selected at the Enrollment Orientation, parents will fill out an Enrollment Form and our administrators will schedule an entrance interview the parents or guardians of the prospective students.
If the school, child and parents agree to continue with the enrollment process, the child will be formally registered as attending Semillas after submission of all necessary registration forms including up-to-date immunizations.

Please note: In order for a kindergarten application to be active, your child must turn 5 years of age on or before November 1st, 2014.
